Hot-rolled steel is available in various shapes, grades, and sizes.
To facilitate forming and processing, hot-rolled steel is rolled at elevated temperatures, typically above the recrystallization temperature of most steels.
Because hot-rolled steel cools after processing, it undergoes slight shrinkage, resulting in less precise dimensional control compared to cold working, making it less suitable for precision applications. Hot-rolled steel is typically used in applications where tight dimensional tolerances are not required.
